12U Girls Host Tournament, High School drops a pair to West Madison

MARINETTE – The Community REC Center hosted a full slate of hockey this weekend with a 12U Girls tournament and a pair of High School contests.

 

HIGH SCHOOL

The Thunder High School team dropped a pair of home games with the West Madison Polar Caps falling with scores of 8-0 and 8-2.

On Saturday, the Polar Caps put four goals on the board in the first period and never looked back. Seven of their eight goals were scored at even strength while they were successful on one-of-three power plays. Niya Patneaude made 26 saves in the loss.

On Sunday, Madison again scored four in the first. The Thunder finally broke through with a power play goal from Theron Thayer assisted by Mason Boivin and Joe Danielak with 3:03 to play in the second.

A Jordan Carvenough goal early in the third, assisted by Adam Lemery, made it 6-2, but the Polar Caps closed the contest with a pair of unanswered tallies.

Patneaude was good for 21 more saves in Sunday’s loss.

The Thunder are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Kenosha.

BANTAM

The Bantam team hosted Green Bay on Friday and delivered a 7-5 victory. On Saturday they played at DePere and came away with a 2-2 draw.

On Friday Blue Haley matched Green Bay’s offense with five goals. Through two periods, the Bobcats had scored five while Haley posted a hat trick including a short-handed goal in the second.

Haley started the third period with an assist as he and Brayden Rounds assisted a Mason Kodric goal. A minute later Haley tied the game with an unassisted goal. Rounds gave the Thunder the lead with ten minutes to play off an assist from Damien Winterbottom. With two minutes to play, Haley put the game out of reach with his fifth goal of the night.

Addy Johnson made 21 saves to pick up the win in goal.

On Saturday, Haley got the Thunder on the board and tied the game at 1-1 with 1:09 to play in the second period. DePere scored early in the third, but Rounds found the net with 6:02 to play to even the contest again. Avery Waloway made 21 saves in an outstanding effort between the pipes.

12U GIRLS

The 12U Girls hosted teams from Green Bay, Sauk Prairie, Central Wisconsin and Ozaukee at the Community REC Center over the weekend. The Thunder fell 6-0 against Green Bay on Friday. On Saturday, they defeated Sauk Prairie 4-0 before dropping a 3-0 score to Central Wisconsin. On Sunday, Ozaukee topped the Thunder 2-0.

Against Sauk Prairie, the Thunder got goals from four different players as Natalie Haile, Whitney Haile, Alleah Lentz and Kendal Truckey all found the net. Sam Miller notched two assists while Truckey added a helper. Katie Olson recorded the shutout with 16 saves.

Olson racked up 98 saves in the tournament, stopping 90% of the shots she faced and averaging 24.5 saves per game.

The 12U Girls will host the DePere 12U C Boys team at the REC Center on Saturday.
