MARINETTE – Four M&M Thunder Hockey teams reached the podium in their respective tournaments over the weekend. The Thunder Bantams took the title at the Oregon Bantam Bash, and the Mite Red team won the Rhinelander Hodag Invitational. The Squirt B team notched a runner-up finish at their own Battle at the REC, and the Mite White team placed third in Rhinelander.

BANTAM

The Thunder Bantams traveled to Oregon, Wis. for the Bantam Bash. In a four-team round robin format, the Thunder went a perfect 3-0 to claim the top spot.

The team piled up a combined 22 goals in victories over Oregon, Appleton and Waunakee.

The offensive barrage started Saturday morning with a 9-5 win over the host team.

Brayden Rounds and Blue Haley set the tone by combining for seven goals. Rounds found the net four times while Haley notched a hat-trick of his own. Damien Winterbottom and Logan Sakovitz accounted for the two remaining goals.

Oregon kept pace with the Thunder in shot count, trailing by a narrow 38-33 margin, but Ethan King was good for 28 saves to deliver the win.

Saturday afternoon against Appleton, Rounds recorded two goals and two assists to pace the team to a 7-4 win.

Haley and Winterbottom each had a pair of goals and an assist as well. Avery Waloway had a goal and an assist as the Thunder outshot their opponent 41-33

On Sunday, Rounds posted another hat-trick while Haley rattled the cage twice to go along with a pair of assists. Caiden Radtke also scored, and Avery Waloway had two assists as the Thunder cruised to a 6-1 victory.

King stopped 21 of 22 shots to bring his total to 78 saves against 88 shots (88.6%) in the tournament.

The Bantam team returns to the ice on Saturday, when they travel to Ozaukee for a doubleheader. Game one is set for a 10:45 a.m. start with the puck dropping in game two at 1:45 p.m.

PEEWEE

The Thunder Peewees split a doubleheader at Manitowoc on Saturday. The Breakers took game one 7-1 before the Thunder came back to win game two 4-3.

The Peewee team will travel to La Crosse, Wis. this weekend to play in the Flames Invitational Saturday and Sunday.

12U Girls

The Thunder 12U Girls team traveled to Altoona, Wis. on Saturday to take on the ECA Stars and were defeated with scores of 6-0 and 7-1.

Kendal Truckey netted the lone Thunder goal. Jadyn Jashinsky made a combined 41 saves in the two games.

The Thunder girls will travel to West Bend, Wis. this weekend to take part in the Heartbreakers Tournament.

SQUIRT B

A shorthanded Squirt B team put together a gutsy weekend to reach the championship game of the Battle at the REC.

Playing with only eight skaters and a goalie Friday and Saturday, the Thunder posted 8-0 wins over both Marquette Crossroads and Everest.

Against Marquette, Calvin Schroeder handled the bulk of the offense with four goals, while Parker Perket and Owen Shaffer each netted a pair. Jaxon Teteak contributed two assists.

Landon Dura tended the cage and stopped all nine shots that he faced.

Against Everest, Dura, Perket and Teteak each scored twice. Schroeder had a goal and two assists, and Liam Koch scored as well.

Shaffer made five saves to record the shutout.

Even with a full compliment of ten skaters and a goalie in Sunday’s championship game, the Thunder ran out of steam against Escanaba, coming up on the wrong end of an 8-0 score and settling for second place.

The Squirts are back in action at the Rhinelander Hodag Invitational this weekend.

SQUIRT C

The Thunder Squirt C team went 0-3 at the Battle at the REC suffering shutouts against Middleton and Kenosha.

Sullivan Reek scored the lone Thunder goal in a loss against West Maddison. His second period strike got the team within a goal at 2-1, but West Madison tacked on three more goals in the third to pull away.

The Squirt C team is set to play in the Rhinelander Hodag Invitational this weekend.

MITES

The Thunder Mite team traveled to Rhinelander, Wis. for the Hodag Invitational this weekend and earned a victory in the Red division as well as a third place finish in the White division.

The Red team, who recently finished third in a 16-team tournament in Appleton, breezed to victories over Everest (12-3), Fox Valley (14-4) and Houghton (10-4) to secure the top seed coming out of pool play.

In the semifinals, they played the Washington County Red Wolves to a 7-7 draw through regulation. Finn Eastman then propelled the team into the championship with a goal in sudden-death overtime.

In the title game, the Thunder topped the Fox Valley Blackhawks 10-3 to take the trophy.

Meanwhile the White team opened with an 8-0 win over Rhinelander. They then took a 6-5 win over Everest with a goal in the closing seconds of the game. A 3-3 draw against the Washington City Wombats gave the Thunder the top seed coming out of pool play, but they were defeated in the semifinal round by Copper Country.

Both the Red and White teams are back in action on Saturday, when they travel to Escanaba.
