M&M Thunder Honors 2026 Lyle "Chummy" McDonald Memorial Players of the Year

The Marinette & Menominee Area Youth Hockey Association (M&M Thunder) is proud to congratulate the recipients of the 2026 Lyle “Chummy” McDonald Memorial Thunder Player of the Year Award: Parker Nelson and Milliana Norquist.

For many years, the local hockey community gathered for the Lyle “Chummy” McDonald Tournament, where a player was selected to receive a scholarship toward the following season’s M&M Thunder fall registration. With the blessing of the McDonald family, this tradition continues through the Player of the Year Award—honoring outstanding youth players who exemplify the spirit of the game.

This year’s recipients were recognized prior to the Thunder Alumni Game on April 4, 2026. Players are selected through coach nominations and reviewed by the McDonald family, making this honor especially meaningful within the association.

Parker Nelson; At just 9 years old, Parker Nelson had an exceptional season with the 10U Squirt B team. Known for his love of the game and strong team spirit, Parker says his favorite part of hockey is “making and playing with friends.”

Parker’s performance on the ice this season was nothing short of remarkable. He recorded 100 goals, including a milestone moment in Waupaca, along with 21 hat tricks and 30 assists. His dedication and enthusiasm embody what Thunder hockey is all about.

Reflecting on the award, Parker shared that it made him feel, “proud to play for M&M Thunder”. His parents added that it was an honor to see him recognized, noting the many friendships their family has built through the association.

Milliana Norquist; Also representing the 10U Squirt B team, Milliana Norquist brought energy, positivity, and passion to the ice all season long. Her favorite part of hockey is “having fun, playing against other teams, winning, and spending time with her friend Leigha.”

Milliana’s favorite hockey memory this season was scoring two goals in a single game, a highlight in what she described as her, “best year yet”. She credited her coaches for making the experience especially memorable.

When asked about receiving the award, Milliana described it as “exciting and amazing.” Her joy for the game and commitment to teamwork make her a standout representative of Thunder hockey.

The M&M Thunder association is incredibly proud to recognize Parker and Milliana for their achievements both on and off the ice. Their dedication, sportsmanship, and love for the game reflect the values that the Lyle “Chummy” McDonald Memorial Award was created to celebrate.

“We are thrilled to honor these two outstanding young athletes,” said the association. “Their passion for hockey and positive impact on their teammates make them truly deserving of this recognition.”

The association also extends a heartfelt thank you to the McDonald family for their continued generosity and commitment to youth hockey in the Marinette and Menominee communities. Their support helps provide opportunities that inspire and reward young players year after year.
