MARINETTE – The M&M Thunder Peewee B team came out victorious at this weekend’s Battle at the REC Tournament.

Peewee B

The Peewee B team breezed through pool play in the six-team C-Bracket at the Battle at the REC with easy wins over Manitowoc (11-1) and Wausau (10-3) before pulling off a thrilling come-from-behind win over Ozaukee in Sunday’s championship game.

Ozaukee jumped on the Thunder with three first-period goals and continued to pile up shots throughout the game. However, Thunder goalie Madisen Salewsky settled in and turned away 33 shots including all 24 she faced in the second and third periods.

Jaxen Teteak got the Thunder offense on the board with an unassisted strike nearly ten minutes into the second period. Two minutes later, Teteak knocked in a rebound off a shot from the tournament’s leading scorer Calvin Schroeder to make it a one-goal game entering the third period.

Midway through the final stanza, Schroeder tied the game with a break-away-goal, then with 48 seconds to play, Schroeder again assisted Teteak for the game-winner.

In three games, Schroeder racked up a tournament-best 16 goals to go with three assists. Teteak finished with six goals and two assists. Cael Schmidt had a goal and four assists including a play-maker performance against Manitowoc. Nova Cook (one goal, two assists), Preston Nelson (one goal, one assist) and Vincent Schmitz (two assists) also put their names in the scoresheet.

Salewsky managed the net for the Thunder in all three games turned away 90% of the shots she faced with 63 saves against 70 shots.

The Peewee B team will be back in tournament action at the Onalaska Tornado Tournament this weekend.

High School

The Thunder High School team was idle this week as preparations continue for the Pink Out Game on February 2.

All proceeds from this year’s Pink Out Game, to be played February 2 when the Thunder host Manitowoc at the Community REC Center, will go to Lizzie VandeHey and her family. Lizzie, a sophomore at Menominee High School, was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and is currently undergoing aggressive chemotherapy.

Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., but fans are encouraged to arrive early to take part in the many planned fund-raising festivities.

This year’s game will feature a gun raffle as well as many other great prizes including a PS5 gaming console, a wine and alcohol pull, a Lazyboy recliner, an iPad, 50/50 raffles for each period and a “free” bake sale where donations will be accepted.

Bantam

The Thunder Bantam team split a doubleheader at Appleton on Sunday with identical 4-2 scores.

After dropping game one, the Thunder responded with a win in game two. Wes Baty paced the offense with a hattrick while Sam Miller added a goal and Lucien Thayer had an assist in the win.

The Thunder bantams will head south for the Winter Wonderland Classic in Rosemont, IL, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Peewee A

The Peewee A team dropped a pair of pool play games in the B-Bracket at this Weekend’s Battle at the REC Tournament before responding with a 9-4 win over the Arctic Jr. Fury (Orland Park, Ill.) on Sunday.

The Thunder fell with scores of 10-4 against Beloit and 9-4 against eventual tournament champion Ozaukee.

On Sunday, the Fury played a physical gameplan and led 2-1 in the first period. Holden Ruiz netted the Thunder’s first goal, and Parker Perket tied the game with his first of three goals with three minute to play in the opening frame. Perket then put the Thunder on top with a short-handed strike just ten seconds before the horn.

Wyatt Kneath poured in three goals in the second period, and the Thunder took a 6-4 edge into the final period.

The Third period was all Thunder as Brayden Forgette scored twice and Perket added another short-handed goal.

The Thunder will play a pair of games at Green Bay on Saturday before hosting Shawano at the REC Center on Sunday.
