MARINETTE – The M&M Thunder High School hockey team rested this weekend in anticipation of four-game spree this week. Meanwhile, the rest of the association was in action including a bronze medal performance at the Badger State Games.

HIGH SCHOOL

An off week came at an opportune time for the Thunder High School team. Several players were able to take the week to let injuries heal while many others were feeling the effects of a long season.

This week, the Thunder will play four home games including two against Dodgeville and a Sunday doubleheader against Sault Ste Marie.

The Thunder have played Dodgeville three time this season. The Ice Wolves garnered a narrow 3-2 win over the Thunder on their way to the Battle at the REC Championship in early January. Last week, a shorthanded Thunder team traveled to Dodgeville and was tagged with a pair of blowout losses (9-0 and 8-0).

The Thunder have not seen the Soo 18U team since opening the season with a doubleheader in Sault Ste Marie. The Soo won both of those opening-day contests with scores of 5-1 and 4-2.

The Thunder stand at 10-15-2 on the season. They will host Dodgeville at 8 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. on Saturday. Sunday’s doubleheader against the Soo will be played at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

BANTAM

Wes Baty turned in a big offensive weekend while Gracelyn Loomis was a wall in the net as the Thunder Bantam team went 2-1-1 in a busy weekend against Houghton and Sheboygan.

On Saturday, the Thunder took a 2-2 draw and a narrow 3-1 loss against Houghton, they then swept a Sunday twin bill against Sheboygan (4-1 and 5-1).

Baty scored two of the Thunder’s three goals against Houghton. He and Jackson Raygo accounted for the scoring in a 2-2 draw while Loomis made 24 saves to preserve the tie. Loomis was also in net for game two and produced 14 saves against 17 shots.

In game one against the Lakers, Baty found the net twice while Lucien Thayer and Conner Radtke scored as well. Loomis allowed only a single second-period goal while making 21 saves.

In game two, Baty exploded for five goals and an assist to pace a 6-1 victory. Owen Haley scored the remaining Thunder goal, and Loomis continued to deny the opposition, allowing only a lone first-period goal while stopping 11 of the 12 shots she faced.

The Thunder head north this weekend for games at Calumet and Houghton for their final tune-up before the WAHA State Tournament.

PEEWEE A

The Thunder Peewee A team took home a bronze medal at the Badger State Games in Wausau over the weekend.

Wyatt Kneath (10 goals) and Parker Perket (seven goals) combined for 17 goals to pace the Thunder attack through three games.

The team opened with a 7-3 win over Tomahawk while Kneath penned his first of three hattricks. In the semifinals, Wausau topped the Thunder 8-5 in spite of three more strikes from Kneath.

In the third-place game, the Thunder dominated from the start in a 10-4 victory over Verona. Perket netted a first-period hattrick while Kneath did the same in the second period.

Brayden Forgette (2), Carter Erdman and Holden Ruiz also scored goals for the Thunder. Landon Dura minded the net in all three games and made 90 saves with a .857 save percentage.

The Peewee A team will host Manitowoc in a pair of games on Saturday and travel to Appleton for two more on Sunday.

PEEWEE B

The Peewee B team suffered a pair of losses (14-6 and 11-6) against Sheboygan on Sunday.

Jaxon Teteak and Calvin Schroeder both had hat tricks in game one. Schroeder pitched in four more goals in game two while Teteak and Nova Zeske found the net as well.

The Peewee B team will play four home games this weekend with a pair against De Pere on Saturday and two more against Green Bay on Sunday.

SQUIRT A

The Thunder Squirt A team delivered a win and a tie in two games against DC Everest in Schofield, Wis. on Saturday.

Liam Hofer scored the Thunder’s lone goal in game one while Liam Kegley made 13 saves to preserve a 1-1 tie.

In game two, Carter and Owen Campbell each netted a pair of goals, and Kegley again made 13 stops to pick up a 4-1 victory.

The Squirt A team holds a record of 16-15-2 on the season. They will travel to Escanaba for two games on Saturday and Shawano for two more on Sunday.

SQUIRT B

The Thunder Squirt B team split a doubleheader against Fox Valley on Sunday. The Blades took game one 5-2 before the Thunder responded with a 5-3 win in game two.

Camden Walker and Dean Gerondale scored for the Thunder in game one.

In game two, Gerondale and Everett Skowlund each scored twice while Maverick Tardiff hit the net as well. Benton Behrens stopped 11 of the 14 shots he faced in the victory.
